IMPROVED HEALTH THROUGH IMPROVED ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE SERVICES
Improved health and access to health services is paramount for vulnerable households especially for households who are infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. This is the story of Binta Ibrahim who was enrolled into the Mashiah Foundation/STEER Project.
A mother of six (6), resident at Ali Kazure community with household number PLA/JSN/MFJ/01873, Binta Ibrahim is occasionally sick with opportunistic infection without access to quality health care service. This is so because of the level of awareness she has as regards opportunistic infections and her belief in alternative medicine (Herbal) as a safe way of treatment.
Though she and her husband are discordant couple but she does not enjoy the support of her husband as regards to her health. More often than not she had drugs prescribed for her by the physician but she could not afford it because of her level of vulnerability. During home visit when she was identified with fungal infection with the evidence on her face, hands and predominantly on the scalp of her head she was supported to access quality medical services.

Today Binta Ibrahim has improved health and knowledge on opportunistic infections, in her words she said “words cannot quantify my appreciation for the Mashiah Foundation/STEER project today I am happy as my health has improved, I can now effectively take care of my children because there is no more health constraints”
Binta Ibrahim is one amongst other HIV Positive discordant caregivers enrolled into the Mashiah Foundation/STEER project who have informed knowledge of opportunistic infections and access to quality health services that promote health at Ali Kazaure community in Jos North LGA of Plateau State.
